The reluctant hero is a ordinary person thrust into extraordinary circumstances.  This change requires an unwanted rise to heroism, despite a desire to avoid it almost entirely.  The willing hero, on the other hand, accepts the heroic journey and finds purpose in sacrificing for the sake of other people’s safety.
